Pahunch Project

Pahunch, meaning “Access” in Nepali, stands as a beacon of hope in Nepal’s quest for justice and security reform. This visionary initiative, generously funded by UKAid, spans a duration of three years with a multifaceted mission at its core. Its objectives are as ambitious as they are crucial: to pinpoint and rectify the deficiencies within Nepal’s security and justice systems, bolster the foundations of the rule of law, facilitate equitable access to justice for impoverished and marginalized communities, and foster a climate of trust and collaboration between citizens and the security sector.

In a testament to the power of collaboration, Pahunch brings together the expertise and resources of UKAid, Search for Common Ground, and Suraksha Nepal. Together, these partners pool their strengths to tackle one of Nepal’s most pressing challenges: fostering positive relations between the nation’s youth and its police force. Understanding the pivotal role of grassroots engagement, Pahunch initially unfolded its activities across fifteen Village Development Committees, leveraging local insights and community participation.

However, recognizing the evolving landscape of governance, Pahunch adapted its approach post-restructuring, extending its reach to encompass two municipalities—Surunga and Dankeshwori—as well as the Mahadeva Rural Municipality. Despite these changes, the project’s core focus remains steadfast: to enhance access to justice and security for women hailing from economically disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds.

Through targeted interventions, dialogue facilitation, and capacity-building initiatives, Pahunch endeavors to empower these communities to assert their rights and navigate the complexities of the legal system with confidence and dignity. By fostering collaboration and understanding between youth and law enforcement, Pahunch not only aims to address immediate challenges but also lays the groundwork for a more harmonious and just society in Nepal.
