The project “Strengthening Municipal-wide WASH Governance for Social Change in Saptari District” stands as a beacon of progress and transformation, spanning a duration of three years from 2019 to 2021. Implemented by Suraksha Nepal and supported by BMZ/VCA/WHH, this initiative is tailored to address the pressing needs of three municipalities—Rupani, Chhinnamasta, and Khadak—in Saptari district. At its heart lies the ambition to ensure access to safe drinking water, promote total sanitation, enhance nutrition, and foster sustainable livelihoods by fortifying WASH governance at the municipal level.
The overarching objective of this project is nothing short of profound: to elevate the health and nutritional status of communities in Saptari through the reinforcement of WASH governance and the provision of essential water, sanitation, and hygiene services. Moreover, the project is intricately woven with the fabric of gender equality and empowerment, aiming to uplift disadvantaged groups within the district.
With a strategic focus on outcomes, the project delineates four key areas of impact, each underpinned by a set of 19 indicators meticulously crafted to gauge progress and measure achievements throughout the project’s lifecycle. These outcomes serve as guiding beacons, directing efforts towards tangible improvements in health, nutrition, and socio-economic well-being, all while fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment within Saptari’s municipalities.
As the project unfolds, it represents more than just a series of interventions; it embodies a collective endeavor towards social change, driven by the principles of equity, sustainability, and community ownership. By bolstering WASH governance and fostering collaboration across stakeholders, this initiative lays the groundwork for a future where every individual in Saptari enjoys the fundamental right to clean water, sanitation, and dignified livelihoods.
